Sound up! Competing with the noise of cars and motorbikes our resident song thrush is doing a pretty good job of belting out his song tonight.

As I watched, he lifted one foot slightly and tapped it in time with his own music. Did I imagine that? I swear I didn’t.

Not all bees are 🐝 some look like this little beauty, a girdled mining bee, with a red ring around its belly.

For just a few weeks in the year, a few of these solitary mining bees hatch and feed on the wildflowers in my garden. Every year I’m scared they won’t appear. Thankfully, this year they’re still here 💚

It’s behind you! Bees lead a daredevil life, trying to avoid dangers wherever they fly. There’s so many threats it’s a wonder any survive.

I found this female crab spider posing as a pearl earring with legs on a blooming viburnum.

She’s a clever lass, as she can change her colouring to match her background be it pink, light green or white.

Males are smaller, brown legged, can’t change colour and careful when mating… so as not to end up as mate and victim within a matter of minutes.
